How best to spend your PE & Sport Premium

In April 2013 the government announced new funding for Physical Education (PE) at school, money that should be used to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision. Typically, that amounted to over £9,000 to each eligible school per year to spend in this way.

To ensure sustainable impact was gained from this investment, it was requested that schools review their PE and sports provision to identify their priorities for improvement. Crucially, each school is free to determine how that extra funding is spent to enhance participation to help all pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels they are capable of.

Government guidelines highlight a number of ways this funding could be used most effectively.

These range from employing qualified sports coaches to work alongside teachers in PE lessons and procuring professional coaching training for staff, to paying external professional coaches to run sports competitions and providing funding for places for pupils in after school clubs and holiday
courses.

These, and many other services, can be provided for your school by the expert, experienced professional sports and PE coaches at Planet Education.

Pupil Premium

The government provides Pupil Premium funding to help address national inequalities in the achievements of children eligible for free school meals, in care, adopted from local authority care or with parents in the armed forces. Sensibly, each school can decide how it spends its Pupil Premium which can be used to fund children on extra-curricular and holiday activities. Indeed, many schools use this extra funding to enhance participation in sport, to help all pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels they are capable of.
